Tuberous Breasts
Tuberous Breasts is a common congenital deformity where the breasts do not develop normally and gives the appearance of a tubular looking breast.
Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation with Dr Ritz, he will discuss the procedure with you, pre operatively, what happens during the surgery and your post operative care, and any risks or complications involved, there are risks associated with any surgery no matter how big or small, it is important you are aware of them and understand them. Dr Ritz will assess your breast shape and size, he will also measure you and give you implants to try. He will use our 3D Vectra Imaging machine to show you a 3D image of what sort of outcome you can expect.
You will have another consultation about 2 weeks prior to your procedure, to discuss the surgery again and answer any further questions you may have.
During the surgery
On the day of surgery you will admit to the hospital 2 hours before, Dr Ritz will see you again and draw pre operative markings on you , the anaesthetist will also speak to you. An incision is made in your selected position, a pocket is created where the implant will be placed, an inflatable sizer is used to determine which size looks best, the implant is placed and the wound is sutured and dressed. Drain tubes are placed to remove any excess fluid.
Recovery
You may be required to stay in hospital 1 night, alternatively you will go home with drain tubes and come back to our rooms to go have them removed the next day. We will fit you with a special bra which you are required to wear day and night for 6 weeks. We will see you for weekly dressings.
Post operative care
You are unable to drive for the first 2 weeks, you are also limited with physical activity, including heavy lifting and going to the gym for the first 6 weeks.

How long does the surgery take?
Approximately 1 hour depending on the areas to be done.
Can I do it just as a day case?
Yes it is usually done as day surgery, sometimes patients need to stay overnight, it depends on the person and can be discussed at the time of consultation.
How long do I have to take off work?
Approximately 1-2 weeks, depending on what you do for work.
When can I drive?
After 2 weeks.
How long until I can exercise?
Usually not until at least 6 weeks post operatively.
Can I choose what implant and size I want?
Yes, with the help of the Dr Ritz, he will advise what he feels is best suited to you.
Where is the best place to have the incision?
It depends on the person, Dr Ritz will advise what he feels is best for you.
Can I breastfeed after surgery?
The implant does not interfere with breast feeding.
Will I loose nipple sensation?
The nerves are stretched during surgery, which may result in temporary loss in sensation.
Are the implants in there permanently?
No, they are a foreign body and usually have to be changed, some patients they do last longer than others but we say at approximately 10-15 years.
